"Crystallography and Society"
workshop on
2014 - The International Year of Crystallography
Palacio de la Magdalena, Santander (Spain)
8-9 July 2013
with the support and auspices of IYCr2014
The course is a two-days event belonging to a series of yearly courses devoted to the popularization of crystallography and crystallization and to promote awareness of the impact of crystallography in our daily lives. In July 2012, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the resolution that 2014 will be the International Year of Crystallography (IYCr2014). On this occasion, the course is devoted this year to discuss the different activities that are being planned and developed for the IYCr2014. The main institution steering and promoting IYCr2014 is the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr), an international scientific organization founded in 1948, specifically to promote international cooperation among scientists and to promote the growth of the science of crystallography through research and education.
The course is aimed at a wide range of public from Master and PhD students in the different fields where Crystallography is relevant to journalist and journalism students who would like to know and discuss the preparation of an international event such as IYCr2014. The talks in the program, presented by key representatives of the different organisms involved in IYCr2014, are a balanced blend of managerial and scientific topics.
